Hot Air Stenter Machine Buying Guide: Heat Setting for Knit & Woven Fabric

The JRD Series hot-air stenter from Wuxi Runda dewaters, finishes, dries, bakes and heat-sets woven and knitted fabrics in one continuous line - with pin, clip or combined pin-clip holding, hot-air circulation ovens and high-precision infrared edge sensing.

When Do You Need a Hot Air Stenter Machine?

A hot air stenter (tenter frame) is the finishing line where wet fabric is held at a controlled width while hot air dries, finishes, bakes or heat-sets it. The JRD Series is used for dewatering, finishing, drying, baking and heat-setting of woven and knitted fabrics.

Heat setting locks the fabric's dimensions and removes residual shrinkage - the step that makes polyester and polyester-blend fabrics dimensionally stable. For knit fabric, overfeed lets you control weight and relaxation precisely.

If your production runs fabric that must hold width, dry evenly and come off the line dimensionally stable after dyeing or washing, a stenter is the machine that does the job in one pass.

Core Parameters & Technical Data

Type: hot-air circulation.

Heat source: heat transfer oil, city gas or electric heating - choose by what is available and economical on your site.

Drive side: left or right type, to fit your plant layout.

Fabric holding: pins, clips, or combined pin-clip, for woven and knitted fabrics.

Nominal width: 1800-3400 mm; width adjustment 900-3200 mm.

Fabric delivery: swing or roll; nominal speed: 100 m/min; cast iron rail.

Overfeed range: -10% to +100% - essential for knit fabric relaxation and weight control.

Edge sensing: high-precision infrared edge sensing for accurate tracking even at high speed.

Oven sections: N sections, 3 m each; oven temperature up to 220 degC. Installed capacity, for example, 130 kW for an 8-section 180 model.

The hot-air circulation drying chamber includes the hot-air circulation system, insulation panels, frame, cable troughs, upper/lower air volume adjustment, top exhaust device with exhaust volume adjustment, exhaust ducts, air jet ducts, rails and heat exchanger.

How to Choose the Right Stenter

Choose the holding system by fabric. Pins grip the fabric edge through the whole oven and are the common choice for knit and delicate fabrics; clips hold woven fabric with finished selvedges; combined pin-clip covers both on one machine.

Match nominal width and width adjustment to your widest fabric, with margin. A 1800-3400 mm nominal width range covers most weaving and knitting plants.

Count oven sections against your process. Drying needs fewer sections; true heat setting at temperature needs enough residence time, so plan sections for the slowest, hottest process you run.

Check the heat source you can actually get. Heat transfer oil, city gas and electric heating are all available on the JRD Series - confirm which one your plant has before ordering.

For knit fabric, verify the overfeed range. The -10% to +100% overfeed on the JRD covers both tensioned finishing and relaxed, weight-controlled drying.

Look at the auxiliary kit: our synchronized brush overfeed and pin pressing device (variable-frequency control), the cloth-edge tracking device (AC motor, rack transmission, infrared) and the three-finger silent expander all affect running stability and fabric quality.

Common Mistakes Buyers Make

Choosing the wrong holding system. Pins for woven fabric with sensitive selvedges, or clips for knit fabric, cause edge marks and poor width control. Match the system to the fabric, or take the combined pin-clip option.

Forgetting overfeed for knit. Without overfeed, knit fabric dries under tension and comes out narrower, heavier or with changed handle; the -10% to +100% range must actually be used.

Under-buying oven sections. A machine that dries fine but cannot hold temperature long enough for heat setting will fail on polyester fabrics - plan sections for heat setting, not just drying.

Not verifying the heat source on site. City gas may be unavailable or expensive in your region; the right heat source for your site avoids a machine that runs at half capacity.

Ignoring edge tracking on wide fabric. Without reliable infrared edge sensing, wide fabric wanders in the oven and you lose width control at speed.

Why Buy from Wuxi Runda

We are a production factory founded in 2004 in Qianzhou, Wuxi - inside Jiangsu's dyeing machinery industrial cluster, close to component supply and an experienced skilled workforce.

We cooperate with textile research institutes and technical colleges year-round on dyeing and finishing equipment and processes, and design and develop our own series.

The JRD Series is built with a heavy-duty hot-air circulation chamber, cast iron rail and infrared edge sensing, plus accessories such as the three-finger silent expander made of high-strength heat-treated aluminum alloy.

Our equipment is exported to Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand and other Southeast Asian markets, with complete after-sales service including installation, commissioning, spare parts and operator training.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fabrics can the JRD hot air stenter process?

The machine is used for dewatering, finishing, drying, baking and heat-setting of both woven and knitted fabrics, including cotton, polyester and blends.

What heat sources are available?

Heat transfer oil, city gas or electric heating - confirm which is available and economical on your site, and we will configure the machine accordingly.

What is the difference between pin, clip and combined pin-clip holding?

Pins grip the fabric edge through the whole oven and suit knit and delicate fabrics; clips hold woven fabric with finished selvedges; the combined pin-clip option covers both on one machine.

What is the maximum oven temperature and machine speed?

Oven temperature is up to 220 degC, with a nominal speed of 100 m/min. Nominal width ranges 1800-3400 mm with width adjustment from 900 to 3200 mm.

Can the stenter dry and heat-set fabric after dyeing?

Yes - the JRD Series covers dewatering, drying, finishing, baking and heat-setting in one continuous line, which is exactly the finishing sequence after dyeing or washing.
